Glowing Cities Under a Nighttime Sky

On my night time flight back to SF from Amsterdam, I noticed that the lights from cities were making the clouds glow. Really spectacular and ethereal – it was really seeing the impact of urban environments from a different perspective. Each glow or squiggle represents one town or city!

Luckily the flight was half empty, so I was able to set up an improvised stabilizer mound made up of my bags, pillows, and blankets for my camera to sit on.

We were around the midwest at the beginning of the clip, and there were fewer cities once we hit the rockies. the bridge at the end is the san mateo bridge.

Technique: 1600iso; beginning – 1 (30sec) exposure / 45secs; end – 1 (4sec) exposure / 10 secs; total elapsed time: around 3 hours?

Equipment used: Nikon D300 (interval shooting mode), Tokina 12-24mm.

Music: Bloc Party – Signs

Midnight Lights of Twenty-Ten

Amazing views from Grizzly Peak, Berkeley, towards the SF Bay. Caught the fireworks at midnight, celebrating the end of the ’00s and the beginning of a new, hopefully splendid decade. The Bay is such a beautiful place; and these will be the last days of the Oakland Span of the Bay Bridge as well…soon the new span will replace it.

Timelapses shot with 2 cameras, from around 10:30pm – 12:30am
Scenes: Bay Bridge + Fireworks: Nikon D300 & 80-200mm f/2.8 @ 200mm
Mid-zoom SF: Nikon D300 & 80-200mm f/2.8 @ 80mm
Bay area overview: Nikon D300 & 35mm f/2.0
Oakland Docks: Nikon D100 & 180mm f/2.8
Berkeley Marina: Nikon D100 & 180mm f/2.8

Music: Equinox, by The American Dollar Band, from their new album Atlas. (thanks John & Rich)
Special Thanks to Mike, camera man and the human-intervalometer for the D100.

Sunset at Princengracht

A wild saturday sunset in Amsterdam. I managed to catch the tail end of it.

My first test of my new B+W ND 3.0 filter. I think it stops down 10 stops…which has very cool potential for daytime long exposures.

Technique:
1x8sec exposure / 10sec &
1x30sec exposure / 32 sec
Frames crossfaded in AE
Equipment: Nikon D300 + Tokina 12-24mm, B+W ND3.0

Music: The American Dollar – The Technicolour Sleep

Bloom

In times of being stressed out at work or being pissed off at the slightest thing. You might need a time-out to which I think is very effective (at least for me). So why not click a few ‘dots’ and listen to the soothing sounds that this nuigroup.com/bloom/bloom.swf makes.

I love how these dots comes in various sounds and colours+ the ever changing background (think gradient) and as you click on your screen for the dots to appear, they go on repeat mode. So it becomes like this tune of dots!

Happy Friday, everyone!
