PAUL Bakery

Paul Bakery #1

Paul Bakery #2

What I’ve read from reviews mentioned that the deserts offered at PAUL Bakery (Singapore) can’t be compared with the taste of what is offered in Europe (Not like I’ve been to Europe anyways), but on my end, I thought the the selection and quality was good. The macarons was not bad while a friend liked the fruit tarts more, to each to his own taste. But overall it was a nice experience – nothing like a good cup of aromatic tea, macarons and the smell of fresh baked pastries lingering throughout the cafe while you unwind after a long day.

Drop by if you’ve not done so, who knows you might fall in love with the interior too, well, at least I did!

FOOD

Nothing beats having great food with a great lunch kahki facing a great view. Thanks Twinny!! You really made my days working in this fast pace area a whole lot better! Though it was brief moments, but it’s moments of bearing the heart and soul on what’s happening around us these days! I’m so going to miss it.

On another note of awesome finds –  chee chong fun, peng kueh for lunch isn’t a bad idea too! Think #archivingsg. Located on the ground level of The Arcade, I’m always served by 2 ‘smiling’ aunties that are most probably the nicest people around in the city area!

SIGNS

Not only myself but many others out there too had no idea that such signage even existed other than the typical yellow ones, so you can imagine how excited I was when I saw this. Plus it was NEON GREEN! Maybe I should get one for my own usage.

The message couldn’t be any clearer than this! Simple and right in your face – FIND ME MY IPOD NOWWWW!

FUN

i Light on a random Friday night with a colleague who was also working late in the office. It’s such a nice way to quieten down the chaotic week and get some inspiration, maybe a ‘light bulb’ moment to get those braincells moving.

Visited this quaint bookstore: Precious Words – Bookstore With A Difference located right at the heart of CBD after a colleague went on a ‘books buying rampage’ and she snapped up like tonnes of good reads for a fraction of the original cost all because they were having discounts up to 50% (it might have been more, not quite sure about that). The cool thing about this place is that they do rental of books too, which I think it is an awesome idea, which allows me to read at a lower cost! (Of course, NLB still rocks my socks). Note, that full payment of the books is needed upfront, unless you are returning it after less than a month of reading period, they would refund you 60% of what the cost of the book is. Don’t we all need good books to keep us sane in this insane world!!?

Have a great weekend ahead, it’s not where you are but it’s the company that matters the most, even if it’s in the company of a couple of books and a cup of good coffee in hand.

Korea 2011 – Day 02

After a long break from updating the holiday post of Day 01 in Korea, I’m back with Day 02 of my experience in this wonderful country!

So Day 02 in Korea started out at 11AM by heading over to Yoido Full Gospel Church located by the Han River at Yeouido which is an island itself, so the journey over to this area is noticeably longer in time, crossing over a few major train lines. Definitely took more than an hour from where we stayed at Jongno, thankful for the interesting sights that got me fascinated.

Day 02

Simple yet such a dynamic church that preaches about the Three-fold blessing (the blessing of the spirit, soul and body).

Day 02

Day 02

Day 02 Day 02

Hearing Pastor David Yonggi Cho himself preach, once again made me remember the faith and trust I have for the Lord!

Day 02

I was just wondering what’s the sitting capacity of 1 service like this?
As this was the ‘main’ service that Pastor Cho preaches personally while the rest of the other services were done by the associate pastors, so that explains the packed congregation.

Day 02

I was a little excited when I saw the various camera crew around! Hehehe!

Day 02 Day 02

Hang out a little while by the Yeouido Park before we headed off to have a hearty lunch of Samgyupsal!!

Day 02

Day 02 Day 02

Day 02

Made new friends that Kellie was also hosting at the same time that we were in Korea. It was nice having extra friends during this trip + they were FUN people, I LIKE!

Korea 2011

Korea 2011

One of the few highlights of this trip was to FINALLY got our hands on KRISPY KREME(sssssss) and yes, this was Mom’s first bite into the yummy doughnuts that I could have it all day long!!

Day 02

Day 02

Day 02 Day 02

So I was told that due to the space constraints, Korean drivers do park their vehicles at ANY available possible space, even if it means to ‘mount curbs’!! *salute*

Day 02

Day 02

Bus routes are clearly stated on each bus stop and thus making travelling around easier despite not knowing how to read Hangul.

Day 02 Day 02

A meal that I’ve been waiting for as long as I can ever remember being introduced to Korean food! Yeap, SAMGYUPSAL which is also known as  BBQ Pork! A highly recommended meal that I would say for any Korea trip! Those juicy succulent pork that is filled with flavours while you wrap them in lettuce – PERFECT combination of soft + crunchy!! Ooooo!

This particular place that we went to called 흑돈가 (Heukdonga) is famous for it’s black pork which originates from Jeju Island – it’s softer and of course YUMMY-ier as compared to the usual pork!! Purely writing this post has already gotten me all drooling and dreaming of the taste.

Day 02

Day 02

Totally appreciative of those pipes that sucks up all the fumes + smell emitted during the BBQ process. Even the chinese believes that food taste even tastier when it’s cooked with coal, yes, this has been proven even here in Korea.

Day 02

Let the feasting begin…

Day 02

Very nice unnis would come over and help us mend the pork just in case we were noobish or too engrossed in conversation and might have ended up with burnt pork instead!!

Day 02

Rounds of Makgeoli (Yup, yet again!!). You cannot get sick or Makgeoli, can you?

Day 02 Day 02

Nice banchan that came along with the orders. I especially like this spicy tofu that was cold and tasty.

Day 02

YUMS!! *faints* The wrap could be made up of green leafs like Lettuce, Perilla, Mustard Greens or anything else. I particularly like how the perilla leaf that has a slight minty taste + the juicy meat goes perfectly well together. Mind you, not everyone has a liking for these leaves but you’ll grow to like the taste after a few chews.

Day 02

After parting ways with newly made friends, Mom and myself headed back to Yeouido Park to enjoy the rest of the evening.

Day 02

It was starting to get cold, not that I mind, but the cold sea breeze made me just want to sit somewhere with a hot cup of coffee.

Day 02

True enough while walking around, we found an outdoor concert that was about to start. With my very limited K-Pop knowledge (then), I have no idea who was singing but with the massive crowd, I believe it should be someone popular?

Day 02

Funky lift experience!! :D

Day 02

Obligated tourist shot with MRT lines.

Day 02

Day 02

Trains are generally wider as compared to what we have in Singapore which makes moving around even while standing easier. Yes, I DO NOT need to have someone breathe down my neck!!

Day 02

Who knew this little fellow would be my saviour in time to come during the trip!! That would be on another story!

Day 02

Nice way to end Day 02 with sights of my eye candy!!

Day 02

SWEET | SALTY | SPICY

I’m really glad and thankful that I have a bunch of ‘foodie gang’ that has good taste buds and is those that would hunt for nice food. So off we (Sophie, Sam, Shiwen & myself) went to SWEET | SALTY | SPICY that serves Thai food at Rail Mall off Upper Bukit Timah which was a breeze to get there after church service.

This Thai restaurant is situated right next with Cafe EPICurious, which serves “All day Breakfast” and other stuff, so the good thing is, since they are right next to one another, they allow you to order from one another’s menu. So how could we have forgo trying out their coffee, right? I must say that the food from SSS was great, quite unexpected from an area in the far west of Singapore would actually serve good Thai food. We’re definitely heading back again when we have the chance.

Right down the lane is where we got our Cedele cakes from – that was the best way to end a Sunday evening. Friends, conversations, food and all smiles!

——

Crispy soft shell crapwith shallot, green mango, coriander & chilli dressing – $13 This is THE EPIC dish for all of us! Double thumbs up!! The crunchiness of this dish makes it not only good in taste but also interesting in terms of what’s hidden in the next bite.

Wok fried minced chicken or pork with fresh red chilli, apple eggplants & holy basil – $14 Which is the usual kra pow gai which was also good. But coming from a person who adores Thai food, I felt that it would have tasted better with stronger basil taste and an egg with it. No kra pow is complete without an egg!

Snapper fillet wrapped in a Banana leaf with red curry paste (Coconut milk and ginger) – $10 This is like otah but with a softer consistency. It has quite a fishy taste to it, so be warned, just in case you’re not a huge fan of it.

FlatWhite from Epicurious was weird, it had a funny taste which I don’t quite know how to describe. Soaps was saying that it might be because of the ‘lower grade’ coffee used. We’re hoping to give it another try with their ‘all day breakfast’ & pastries.

Blueberry Maple Cake that was AWESOME from Cedele made my day!! This was such a great find which some might claim that Cedele doesn’t exactly serves good cake BUT you’re wrong.

Real Dark Chocolate Cake brought smiles!
